Niagara Falls never fails to put the sparkle back in our marriage when
we need it. Just seeing the beauty and majesty of the falls and wandering
among tourists and honeymooners brings back all the memories of our own
beginnings.

We try to escape at least twice a year by ourselves. Our favorite getaway
is anywhere we can be alone for a weekend. At times, that means sending
the kids to gramma's and lighting candles in our own home.

The best getaway we've ever had was an "Orient Express" weekend that
our tourist association put on. The took a refurbished train with a car
of sleeping compartments and allowed people to embark in the morning for
an overnight surprise trip. Not knowing where we'd be going...stopping
for lunch on a wooded spur line and then sneaking back to our compartment
to laze around and watch the world speed by was so romantic.

My favourite weekend retreat was last year when we rented a cottage
on a nearby lake. When we got there, we found out that rustic meant no
electricity. No T.V. or radio. Oil lamps and a fireplace. The quiet peace
was such a luxury that we've made reservations for a whole week next year!
His hand on the small of my back, guiding me and connecting with me
all at the same time....I just love that.
It's the look across a room when we're at a party. The one that says
"I'm enjoying myself, but I can't wait until we're alone"
His large hand, wrapped around mine when we walk...and the 3 squeezes
that tell me he loves me.

Reaching up to drop the sun visor in my car and finding that my wife
had booby trapped it with shiny confetti for my birthday. I found it 3
weeks later and loved that she'd done so much for me that she'd forgotten
this little touch.

Even now, after over 20 years together, he can't resist coming up behind
me when I'm washing dishes. That annoying squeeze speaks louder than any
words can.

The look in his eyes when I'm sick. Love, concern, tenderness...He makes
me want to get better just because he cares so much.
