I use description. Each word that I type is designed to
help to make the illusion complete for myself and my virtual partner. I
work hard to envision the situation and try to make the scene believable...there's
nothing worse than kissing someone's neck and noticing that they've just
tilted their head up to brush their lips against yours. I try to anticipate
what my partner will write and do a lot of erasing when I'm wrong.
When I'm off-line, I try to be considerate. I e-mail as often as
possible and send everything from virtual kisses to vacations. It's little
touches like those that help to keep things fresh and exciting.
It's hard to write convincingly of love when I'm sprawled on the
sofa in my sweats with the laptop. In order to make the most of virtual
romance, I try to make an effort to feel good before I start chatting with
my special friend. I sprinkle some perfume or light a scented candle, lower
the lights, slip into some silky outfit and then let my mind expand to
include my absent partner. I also keep my partner's picture right
on my desktop so I can always "see" who I'm talking to.
I make use of the many "talk" programs that are available on the
net. ICQ, Freetel, Powwow all give the immediate interaction that I prefer.
I often start the day by sending a long descriptive mail full of romantic
scene-setting. My mind will drift and linger on past conversations and
the conversation yet to come a few times during the day. When that happens,
I'll often send a note or an e-mail card to let my friend know that I'm
thinking of them. I find that short, frequent messages build the anticipation.....and
I love anticipation.
